Bowl in Macrocarpa

Small bowl in macrocarpa wood. The original wood was from a mix box of practice wood. The wood didn’t look like anything special until it was turned, when this red streak appeared. Once finished, a lovely wavy grain pattern also became noticeable.

This is one of my favourite bowls. The simple shape compliments the grain contour and really shows that any wood can look lovely if turned to highlight its features. The red streak is one of those delightful surprises that makes me like woodturning so much.

Finished in sanding sealer and wood wax.
