I painted this miniature Gollum for a local tabletop gaming painting competition. I believe the Gollum figure itself is made by the Games Workshop, but as usual, all figurines must be painted by the owner.
He is quite small, as evidenced by the base being hardly larger in diameter than the 5p coin, but the Games Workshop models are always very good with a lot of fine detail. After filing and sanding off the flash (residual from the casting process),I began with primer and a base layer of colour for the rock and one for Gollum. Then I began to build up detail with the dry brush technique in successive lighter colours. I believe I used a toning glaze as well, as they usually give a nice grimy effect, like dirt and dust that has gathered in crevices over time. Finally, I painted in the details such as the eyes and highlighted or touched up areas that needed it with a fine brush. Flocking is done last of all.
I don’t really know why I made him blue. I suppose I just wanted him to stand out.
